How To Identify A Flooded Vehicle

You can find a great deal at an auto auction but you can also find a lot of scams.  In addition to stolen cars and laundered titles, you may encounter cars at an auto auction that have been flooded.  When a car is flooded, it is given the title "flooded" by the insurance companies.  Unfortunately, many crooks do their best to cover up the flood damage and sell it to you as "rebuilt" or "used".  So how can you tell if a car at an auto auction has been flooded?  Here are some signs:

If a car has been flooded, it most likely sat in a few feet of water for hours or days which would leave water lines on the engine, interior, or radiator.  A car at an auto auction with brand new carpeting is a sign that the previous owner may have been trying to cover something up.  Check for any mold, smells, or rust.  Come prepared to the auto auction with a mirror to check for rust and discoloration in hard to see places.  A sure sign that the car at the auction has been flooded is if the air filter is full of twigs, mold, or grass.  Some crooks forget to fix or clean everything.  As long as you know what to look for, you'll be able to find some fantastic deals at auto auctions!
